SALT LAKE CITY — A man who police say "violently" shook a dog and then threw it was arrested Tuesday.
About 5:45 p.m., Kevin Flowers, 30, was arrested for investigation of animal cruelty, resisting arrest and drug possession after allegedly abusing a small dog and then fighting police who tried to arrest him.
The incident happened near 400 South and 400 East. After allegedly throwing the dog, Flowers pulled the animal off the ground by its leash, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report. When two officers arrived to investigate, they found Flowers sitting on the ground.
One officer told him to get up, to which Flowers yelled, "I will in a minute." When Flowers did get up, he "faced and squared off to me," the officer wrote.
One officer used pepper spray. "It didn't work," the report states. The officer's partner used his Taser. "He got both probes but still took a minute to go down."
Officers found Flowers had a bottle of prescription pain meds in his pocket that were not his, according to the report.
Salt Lake Animal Control took possession of the dog.
Flowers, who has had seven different misdemeanor cases filed against him in 2014 alone in Salt Lake Justice Court, had warrants out for his arrest for trespassing, shoplifting, resisting arrest and drug possession.
