SALT LAKE CITY — Former Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff attended Tuesday's state alcohol commission meeting with his brother who sought a special permit for a product he is developing.

Kevin Shurtleff requested an industrial/manufacturing permit for his company, Now Nutraceuticals, which plans to make an aerosol inhaler that rapidly introduces caffeine into the body. The formula requires a small amount of alcohol.

Shurtleff did not speak at the meeting other than to introduce his younger brother, a Utah Valley University chemistry professor, who explained the product to the commission. The panel approved the permit.

State prosecutors charged Mark Shurtleff and his successor, John Swallow, this summer with multiple public corruption charges, including pattern of unlawful activity and bribery. Their next scheduled court hearing is Oct. 20.
