SURREY, England — The founder of a wildlife charity goes the extra mile to save a wee swan.

Simon Cowell (no, not that Simon Cowell) founded Wildlife Aid Foundation — based in Surrey, England — in the 1980s, to look after the welfare of wild animals in the UK.

Although he’s been the boss for three decades, Cowell “still goes out in the middle of the night on rescues and is actively involved in the day-to-day care of the animals in our veterinary hospital and rehab centre,” according to WAF’s website.

That is how Cowell found himself out on a call to help a cygnet (baby swan) that was not only stuck in a chain-link fence, but it was also being ferociously guarded by its protective father.

Cowell approached the situation calmly and without fear, despite papa swan charging Cowell and giving him a good thump with his wings. Cowell adorably coos and chats to the cygnet, but also firmly chastises papa swan for charging.

He frees the cygnet and places it back in the water to be with his family, but not before papa swan gives one more "I'm the boss" charge.

Despite the attacks, Cowell praises the swan saying, “They’re such protective parents; they’re so good.” Cowell isn’t even bothered by the fact that the swan rescue interrupted his dinner, simply happy that “all the babies are together again.”
