PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KMIR) — Flooding in Palm Springs, California decimated one family's home Tuesday.

The water rushed through the house, right in to a young boy's bedroom. When the water reached the ceiling, the exterior wall collapsed and the boy was swept away.

Now his parents say it's a miracle he survived.

"We really thought that we lost him," Ryan Scarcy says of her son, Tristan. "We came around thinking we can break a window to get in and the whole wall was gone. His room was gone and he was nowhere to be found."

The baby traveled about 200 feet from his room past a barbed-wire fence in the front yard.

"My friend busted the living room window and came in through here and he pointed out and he's like dude your son's over there, so I turned around and saw him and he peeked his head out of the mud, ran out and picked him up," recalls Brian Bennett, Tristan's father.

Tristan's parents says it's a miracle they found him just in time.

"I looked at him made sure he was breathing, everything was good vitals were good, he was just in shock," Bennett says.

While they're relieved their son is okay, the family still lost everything within minutes.

"The house is gone, the furniture is gone, Tristan's things are gone, but I'm really thankful to have my son," Scarcy says. "That we have him and that he's still alive."

The Red Cross is assisting the family.

The couple was renting that house and did not have flood insurance.
