RANDOLPH, Rich County — Family members say James Christian Townsend loved hunting, fishing, NASCAR and crashing radio-controlled airplanes.

On Saturday, Townsend, 49, died after being accidentally shot by his brother while both were hunting antelope. Rich County sheriff's investigators believe Townsend and his 60-year-old brother were both shooting at the same animal from opposite ends near Little Creek Reservoir. The brother did not see Townsend, who was kneeling, and accidentally shot him while aiming for the antelope.

Townsend, who was born in Ogden, is survived by his wife, two daughters, three stepdaughters, two stepsons, three sisters and two brothers, according to his obituary. He worked at Peterson Inc. as a machinist.

Funeral services will be held Monday at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Myers Ogden Mortuary to help cover funeral expenses.
