PROVO — I’ve found over the past decade that BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall has adopted the slightly altered Three Wise Monkeys’ mantra of “See No Media, Hear No Media, Speak No Media."

Therefore, my camera nearly fell off my shoulder when Bronco let slip the fact that he’s seen the viral Grover and Taysom video.

It’s worth a watch — over 200,000 views, so far.

If your mobile phone data plan is preventing you from watching the video, here’s the crux. A fan — with the YouTube moniker randomperson1210 — played the classic Sesame Street preposition song by Grover, “Over, Under, Around and Through." He then overlaid highlights of Taysom Hill running over, under, around and through the Texas Longhorns.

The trap was unintentionally set by KSL's Greg Wrubell when he asked Bronco what he thought about the offensive identity of his team. BYU has a long and storied history of passing the ball, but has been dominant, recently, when rushing the ball. Hill ranks second nationally in rushing yardage for a quarterback.

“We are most effective when we are doing both," Mendenhall said. "I love the physical nature of running the football. I love knocking people over."

Uh oh, here comes the fastball right down broadway.

“I also like the ball going over, around, and through,” he said.

Home run, cue angelic choirs, and watch Roy Hobbs smash the lights. A better man would have chuckled and left it alone, but I am not that man. I raced back to the station to create my own Grover and Bronco video.

Mendenhall acknowledged the reference.

“That was not planned. That was spontaneous," he said. "I don’t even know what to make of what I just said.”

I couldn’t help poking the bear.

“What was that again? Over, around…?” I asked.

With a smile, Mendenhall played along, “Over, around, and through is the way, I think, you say it.”
