SALT LAKE CITY — Minnesota Vikings running back Matt Asiata has never been a star in his NFL career.

The Utah alumnus had been a continual contributor, until Vikings starter Adrian Peterson was suspended for issues off the field. In stepped Asiata, and the former Ute rushed for 36 yards, and caught five passes for 48 yards and a touchdown, in Minnesota’s 30-7 loss to New England.

Utah alumnus Sealver Siliga made three tackles for the Patriots in the victory over Minnesota. Cleveland’s Paul Kruger made three tackles and a sack in a 26-24 win over New Orleans, and Carolina’s Star Lotulelei made two tackles in a 24-7 win over Detroit. Also, Miami’s Derrick Shelby made three tackles in a 29-10 loss to Buffalo.


Former Utah quarterback Alex Smith passed for 255 yards, but the Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Denver Broncos, 24-7.

Atlanta’s Paul Soliai made six tackles for the Falcons in a 24-10 loss to Cincinnati, while San Diego’s Eric Weddle made four tackles in the Chargers’ 30-21 upset win over Seattle.

BYU alumnus Ezekiel Ansah made four tackles for the Lions as Detroit lost to Carolina. Also, Dennis Pitta caught three passes for 30 yards for Baltimore, while Brett Keisel made one tackle for Pittsburgh in the Steelers’ loss to the Ravens.

Utah State alum Jarrett Bush made two tackles in Green Bay’s 31-24 win over the New York Jets, while Miami’s Will Davis made two tackles in the loss to Buffalo. Seattle’s Robert Turbin caught two passes for 35 yards and a touchdown, while Bobby Wagner made 10 tackles in the loss to San Diego.
