ST. GEORGE — Desert Hills football is used to playing with pressure.

Obviously, the Thunder are the defending 3AA football champions and will play with that pressure on their collective shoulders until they lose the final game on the schedule.

Desert Hills opened region play with a 2013 playoff team, the Cedar Redmen, and dominated the entire game, beating Cedar 45-7 in a 3AA South game at Desert Hills.

Desert Hills led 31-0 at halftime.

The Thunder scored the game’s first 38 points, scoring 15 points in the first quarter. First, junior receiver Stetson Wood caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Nick Warmsley as Desert Hills took a 7-0 lead. Then the Thunder forced a Cedar safety before Desert Hills’ Cody Rickett scored on a 5-yard run to finish the quarter.

Senior running back Bridger Cowdin scored twice in the second quarter, first on a 2-yard run and then on a 72-yard run. Kicker Christian Cottle also made a 40-yard field goal attempt as the Thunder took a 31-0 halftime lead.

Cedar finally got on the board in the third quarter as junior running back Brock Oldroyd scored on a 97-yard run that temporarily cut the score to 31-7. However, Desert Hills responded, with Warmsley scoring on a 40-yard run.

The Thunder scored again in the fourth quarter as Cowdin ran 58 yards for a touchdown.

Desert Hills plays at Payson next week, while Cedar hosts Hurricane.
