OGDEN — The Big Sky conference had a chance for two massive upsets in week two of the season.

First, perennial powerhouse Eastern Washington had a chance to upset Pac-12 conference member Washington; second, up-and-coming Weber State had a chance to upset No. 1 North Dakota State, the three-time defending national champions.

Unfortunately, for the Big Sky, the upsets were not to be, as the Eagles fell to the Huskies late, and the Wildcats fell to the Bison.

Eastern Washington quarterback Vernon Adams threw seven touchdowns, but two Washington scoring drives in the fourth quarter gave the Huskies a narrow win, 59-52.

Sacramento State also played a Pac-12 foe, facing off against California. The Hornets fell to the Bears, 55-14.

Big Sky teams finished 6-7 in week two of the season.

The Wildcats were tied with the Bison 7-7 midway through the second quarter, but a sack-fumble of Weber quarterback Billy Green led to a Bison touchdown. North Dakota State ended up escaping Weber’s Stewart Stadium with a 24-7 victory.

Several Big Sky teams took on Mountain West teams. UNLV narrowly worked past Northern Colorado, 13-12, and Utah State beat Idaho State, 40-20.

In other non-conference FCS games featuring Big Sky teams, North Dakota defeated Robert Morris, 16-13; Southern Utah fell to Southeastern Louisiana, 44-14; South Dakota State beat Cal Poly, 44-18; and Northern Arizona defeated Abilene Christian, 27-21.

The Big Sky’s other teams all played Division II teams, primarily from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Montana beat Central Washington, 48-14; Montana State beat Black Hills State, 57-10; and Portland State defeated Western Oregon, 45-38. Also, UC Davis defeated Fort Lewis, 52-17.
