OGDEN — A witness to a hit-and-run talked about responding to the accident, and police said possible charges for the driver are pending.

Ogden police Lt. Kevin Cottrell said the accident occurred Tuesday afternoon near 1100 North and Washington Boulevard. A motorcyclist was driving northbound on Washington Boulevard when a white hatchback pulled in front of him, Cottrell said.

The motorcycle driver attempted to swerve around the vehicle, but hit the back of it and flipped off his motorcycle. Cottrell said the driver of the hatchback continued driving and headed westbound on 1000 North.

Ogden resident Chance Williams said he was walking to a gas station with his brother at the time of the accident. As a retired firefighter Williams said he’s had a lot of experience with emergency response and when he saw and heard the accident, his training kicked in.

“It appears he rolled a few times with his bike and then slid away from his bike during the accident because his bike was a little further down the road than he was,” Williams said. “Nobody had touched him before I got to him. I was the very first person to get to him.”

Cottrell said the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and was seriously injured with broken bones and abrasions.

“He was conscious, he was awake,” Williams said. “He was in shock, but he didn’t have any injuries that were so serious that he was in immediate danger of his life.”

Williams said he assessed the situation and stayed with the man until an ambulance arrived. The victim was transported to a local area hospital for treatment and was released Friday.

Cottrell said with statements from witnesses at the scene, police were able to locate the car involved in the hit-and-run. The hatchback was located by Harrisville police who contacted the Ogden Police Department. The driver involved in the hit-and-run was questioned and Cottrell said possible charges are pending, waiting for blood results and a statement from the victim.
