SALT LAKE CITY — A man was arrested Wednesday evening after trespassing in a Salt Lake City neighborhood, police said.

The trespassing incident occurred at a residence near 1200 E. 700 South around 8 p.m., according to Salt Lake police. A woman told police she saw a man standing on her front porch with a bicycle when she pulled into her driveway.

When the man saw the homeowner, he rode away on the bicycle and attempted to hide in a neighbor’s garage, police said. The woman and her husband followed the man and saw him burglarize a neighbor's vehicle, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.

The woman and her husband detained the man in the garage until police officers arrived. Upon further investigation, police discovered the bike had been stolen from a shed the night before and the man was carrying several glass pipes.

Adam David Cloward, 29, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of vehicle burglary, trespassing, possession of paraphernalia and a hold for adult probation and parole.

The incident comes just a week after Cloward avoided being sent back to the Utah State Prison.

On Aug. 13, Cloward was convicted of drug possession, a third-degree felony, and given a suspended prison term. In that incident, a Utah Transit Authority officer found Cloward with a box in his backpack that contained methamphetamine, according to court documents.

Cloward's lengthy criminal history also includes a charge of disorderly conduct in April and a conviction of misdemeanor trespassing in March. He was convicted of attempted obstruction of justice in 2012, for which he was sentenced to up to a year in jail. In 2009, Cloward was convicted of trespassing and sentenced to up to five years at the Utah State Prison, according to court records. In 2006 he was sentenced to one to 15 years at the prison on a robbery conviction.
