SALT LAKE CITY — A man accused of opening the door of a parked car and attacking a Chicago man who was on a date was ordered Wednesday to stand trial for murder.
Harlin Argelio Ramos, 30, is charged with murder, a first-degree felony, in the stabbing death of Joaquin Gonzalez, 33, on April 19 near 500 West and 100 South.
Witnesses testified before Judge Denise Lindberg, saying Ramos mistook an occupied vehicle for a taxi that he had called for a ride. Gonzalez and a woman had just watched a movie at The Gateway and were giving each other a goodbye embrace when Ramos approached the vehicle, reached inside and started fighting with Gonzalez, according to testimony during a preliminary hearing this week.
Gonzalez, a passenger, later died from four stab wounds.
After two days of testimony, Lindberg said she'd heard enough to find probable cause that Ramos committed the crime and ordered him to stand trial. An arraignment was set for Sept. 19 where Ramos will appear before Judge James Blanch.
