ST. GEORGE — One person sustained severe internal injuries and two others were injured when a car drifted into oncoming traffic Wednesday, police said.

A woman was driving a blue SUV south on Dixie Drive near Parkside Circle when she crossed over the center lane into oncoming traffic at about 9:15 a.m., according to the St. George Police Department.

Her vehicle first side-swiped a red SUV, causing it to spin and eventually stop facing in the opposite direction, before continuing on to hit a red passenger vehicle head-on, police said.

The woman driving the blue SUV was transported to the the Dixie Regional Medical Center by ambulance with severe internal injuries. Police said they do not know why she drifted out of her lane and the accident is still under investigation.

The woman who was driving the red SUV had minor cuts and bruises, while the woman driving the red passenger car sustained non-life threatening injuries, according to police. They were also transported to the Dixie Regional Medical Center by ambulance.

Dixie Drive was temporarily closed to traffic while emergency personnel responded to the team and cleared the area, police said.
