LAYTON — A man was seriously injured when he crashed his car while leading police on a high-speed chase, UHP said.

A Salt Lake County corrections officer spotted the car driving erratically on 2700 West at 4100 South around 10:15 Monday night. The car hit a curb, which blew out the right front tire, according to UHP.

The vehicle then entered I-15 northbound at 3500 South, and UHP troopers pursued it. They said the car was driven recklessly with the rim only on the front tire into Davis County at speeds of 25 to 95 mph.

Deputies tried to spike the car’s other tires at Shepherd Lane. The vehicle exited the freeway at the Layton Parkway Exit and hit a concrete curb at the top of the off-ramp.

The driver was taken to McKay-Dee hospital in serious condition.

UHP doesn’t know why the man fled police. Investigators found a small amount of drugs in the car. They said the vehicle belonged to the suspect’s friend and was taken without permission.
