WEST JORDAN — Three fast-food restaurants were robbed 15 minutes apart Thursday, police said.

A man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a long wig, which covered most of his face, was seen at all three robberies, according to West Jordan police Sgt. Dan Roberts. He displayed a black handgun and demanded the money in the cash registers, according to police.

The first restaurant robbed was the Sconecutter at 6149 S. Cougar Lane, Roberts said. Fifteen minutes later the Little Caesars at 6973 S. Cougar Lane was robbed, followed by the Arctic Circle at 3365 W. 7800 South within another 15 minutes, investigators said.

Police believe at least one other person was waiting outside while the robberies occurred to serve as a getaway driver. The same group of people may have been involved in the robbery of a Taco Bell in Midvale later the same day, Roberts said.

“We think there are a number of robberies that have occurred recently in the Salt Lake Valley that have similar characteristics, so we’re going to take a close look at those,” he said.

The people involved in these types of robberies are often involved in multiple robberies, according to Roberts. He said there are strong similarities between Thursday’s robberies and others that have occurred in recent weeks and months.

“They are becoming increasingly more common and frequent and we’re very worried about them becoming more violent,” Roberts said. “Certainly the more this happens the greater the potential there is for someone to be injured.”

Investigators believe the robbers were driving a small, dark-colored passenger car that was stolen.

Anyone with information about the robberies can contact the West Jordan Police Department by calling 801-840-4000.
