BROVILLE — Whether people like it or not, it is a fact that most people's longest relationships will be with their siblings. Here are four sets of brothers in film and on TV who, for better or worse, share an unbreakable bond of brotherhood.
The Wonder Years
"The Wonder Years" follows the adventures of young Kevin Arnold, a boy from the suburbs in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In almost every way, Kevin is a typical kid from a middle-class family. Also typical is that Kevin's older brother, Wayne, has decided it is his life mission to tease and otherwise torment Kevin.
In the series, the great majority of Kevin's and Wayne's interactions consist of Wayne either making fun of Kevin or pummeling him. However, there are rare glimpses of love and bonding that the two share as only brothers can. If you and your brother spent most of your childhood together driving each other nuts, check out "The Wonder Years."
Ocean's 11
When Danny Ocean is getting together his group of thieves to rob a casino, the Malloy brothers are recommended. Turns out, the Malloy brothers are from Provo, Utah, and known to Ocean simply as "the Mormon twins." Similarly to Kevin and Wayne Arnold, Virgil and Turk Malloy drive each other crazy as they gleefully get under the other's skin.
Throughout the movie, it is fun to watch the other characters intentionally try to stay as far away from the brothers as possible. If you and your brother are still immature as fully grown men and still pick at each other, "Ocean's 11" might be right up your alley.
Frasier
In "Frasier," Kelsey Grammer plays Frasier Crane — a well-meaning but snobby and pompous radio psychiatrist. His brother, Niles, is also a psychiatrist and likewise likable but snobbish. While the two are the best of friends, they are also the epitome of sibling rivalry.
Despite being well-versed in human behaviors and trained at prestigious universities, the two cannot take their own advice to heart and constantly quarrel over petty things. Still, the two love each other and are always available when there is a need. If you and your brother are rivals almost as often as you are there for each other, then tune in to "Frasier."
Sherlock
In the BBC's version of "Sherlock," Sherlock Holmes and his brother Mycroft have what can be safely called a "complicated relationship." While most brothers play catch or with toys together for fun, Sherlock and Mycroft found amusement memorizing facts and solving complex riddles by the power of deduction.
Their relationship only gets more tricky to navigate when Mycroft becomes a major power behind the scenes in Britain and Sherlock's incredible detective skills and surly personality gain him fame and infamy in England and beyond. The pair's paths inevitably meet up throughout the series, and their interactions are some of the rare moments where both seem human. If you and your brother have a complex relationship, then "Sherlock" might resonate with you.
