SALT LAKE CITY — Pitcher Wade LeBlanc and catcher John Buck have seen each other before.

The environments of professional baseball are pretty much the same: airports, buses, hotels, dugouts and locker rooms. Teammates come and go with a daily regularity, but there is a special relationship between pitchers and catchers. And LeBlanc and Buck have that kinship.

Tuesday, their professional relationship was renewed as the former Florida Marlins battery took the field dressed as Salt Lake Bees of the Pacific Coast League. And they were unable to lead the Bees to victory, as Salt Lake fell to the Reno Aces 4-1 at Smith’s Ballpark.

For the second consecutive game, the Aces got on the board first as first baseman Mike Jacobs scored on a one-out double by catcher Bobby Wilson, taking a 1-0 lead.

Salt Lake starter Wade LeBlanc threw nine strikeouts in seven innings pitched while he allowed just one run and five hits.

Salt Lake tied the game in the sixth inning, when left fielder J.B. Shuck scored on a C.J. Cron single. However, Reno responded in the eighth, scoring three runs to take a 4-1 lead.

LeBlanc threw seven innings of one-run ball, while Reno starter Andrew Chafin pitched seven-and-two-thirds innings of one-run ball to earn the win. Bees reliever Fernando Nieve surrendered all of the Reno runs in the eighth inning.

Bees manager Keith Johnson said the Bees lost in spite of LeBlanc’s quality start.

“(LeBlanc) battled for us for seven strong innings," Johnson said. "He had a couple of tough early innings and his pitch count wasn't as high in the last few innings.”

The Bees and Aces play the third game of their four-game series Wednesday, when Bees right-hander Jarrett Grube faces off against Reno right-hander Charles Brewer. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Smith’s Ballpark.
