ANCIENT EGYPT — The premier trailer for Ridley Scott’s Biblical epic “Exodus: Gods and Kings” has landed and it appears to tell the story of Moses in a new way.
The film is a retelling of the story of Moses in the book of Exodus in the Old Testament and it stars Christian Bale as the Biblical prophet and Joel Edgerton as the Pharaoh Ramses.
The film is continuing a recent trend of religious-based movies finding a home in Hollywood. 2014 has seen the release of other Biblical epics like “Noah,” and “Son of God.” The year has also given us Christian films like “Heaven is For Real” and “God’s Not Dead,” which both saw promising returns at the box office.
The trailer for “Exodus: Gods and Kings” promises action, spectacle and drama, but will it follow the Biblical account or find a new way to tell the story much like Darren Aronofsky did with “Noah”?
It appears that many of the points from the story in Exodus are apparent, like the different plagues, but it could also appear that Christian Bale’s Moses is also more of a military leader than a spiritual one. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Regardless, the movie looks intriguing and the trailer has certainly caught the attention of audiences.
“Exodus: Gods and Kings” is slated to open Dec. 12, 2014.
