SALT LAKE CITY — Investigators were trying to determine what caused a fire at the University of Utah early Wednesday morning.
The fire started in an oven in a biology lab around 1:20 a.m., according to Jasen Asay of the Salt Lake City Fire Department.
Apparently someone left glass in the oven, which was left on overnight. Investigators were looking into whether it was intentional or accidental.
A sprinkler system contained the fire to one lab, which received smoke and water damage. No one was injured.
In a separate incident, a house fire displaced eight people in Ogden.
A family was watching TV at their home near 2800 Adams Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when they spotted smoke and flames coming from an adjacent room, according to Ogden fire officials.
Everyone got out safely but the fire spread quickly, causing about $55,000 in damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Red Cross was helping the family find a place to stay.
