ALBANY, N.Y. — At the July 5 Paul McCartney concert, one man got the opportunity of a lifetime when McCartney pulled two concertgoers onstage.
Imagine you’re a huge Beatles fan, you’ve been dating someone you want to propose to, you’re attending a Paul McCartney concert and you just happen to be 64 years old. (Us Beatles fans know that 64 is the prime romantic number in the band’s forward-thinking love song, “When I’m Sixty-Four.“)
Concertgoers and couple John and Claudia from Rochester, New York, took advantage of their particular Beatles stars aligning to both wheedle their way into meeting McCartney and to get engaged.
During the concert, Claudia held up a sign that said, “He won’t marry me until he meets you,” and John held up a sign that said, “I have the ring. And I’m 64.” McCartney found this charming and pulled the couple on stage so John could make his grand gesture.
What McCartney didn’t expect was John’s more than decent rendition of “When I’m Sixty-Four.” The band was into it and started playing along, and McCartney himself gets a few guitar strums into it to offer his support.
Spoiler alert: She said yes. And the icing on the wedding cake is that not many people will be able to top John and Claudia’s McCartney-backed engagement story.
