PRICE — Mont Harmon Junior High School was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after a teen brought a gun to school.

Around 11:30 a.m., Price police received reports of a student with a gun on the campus at 60 W. 400 North, according to a news release. Police said a male eighth grade student showed another student the handgun and then hid the weapon on school grounds. The student who saw the gun reported it to school officials who then contacted police.

The school was immediately placed on lockdown and officers from Price City Police, the Carbon County Sheriff's Office, Helper Police and Adult Probation & Parole responded.

Carbon County Deputies questioned the student with the gun and he led them to where he had hidden the weapon, the press release said. Officers retrieved the Colt .38 revolver and transported the student to the Price Youth Detention Facility.

Officers did not find any ammunition with the gun and no one reported being threatened by the student. The lockdown was lifted after about an hour, and the student was taken to Price Youth Detention Facility.

The investigation is ongoing and more information will be posted as it becomes available.
