TOOELE VALLEy— Miller Motorsports Park is teaming up with the Tooele County School District and the Tooele Education Foundation to promote school attendance with a unique incentive program called "Keeping Kids on Track."

The purposes of the program are to encourage students to strive for excellent attendance, improve academic performance and help increase graduation rates. The pilot phase of the program will take place during the second semester of the 2013-14 school years - between February 3 and May 2, a 13-week period.

Students who achieve 95-percent attendance between February 3 and May 2 will receive rewards from Miller Motorsports Park. Students in grades K-3 will receive a free Zip-Line ride, and students in grades 4-12 will receive a free karting session at the Miller Kart Track.

Innovative incentive program promotes school attendance

"We are very excited to team up with the Tooele Country School District and the Tooele Educational Foundation on the ‘Keeping Kids on Track' program," said John Larson, General Manager of Miller Motorsports Park. "Part of our mission statement is to be a source of pride to our community, and this is a perfect way to contribute to that goal."

"Anything we can do to motivate and incentivize our K-12 students to have excellent attendance will pay huge benefits," said Dr. Scott Rogers, Superintendent, Tooele County School District. "More time in school classrooms, on task, equals more achievement and success. We know that excellent attendance is an important ingredient to success in school."

"When students are in school, they have the chance to learn more and that equates to academic achievement," said Dr. Edward Dalton, Executive Director of the Tooele Education Foundation. "It is also a great help to teachers. They don't have to spend so much time trying to help students catch up with good attendees. It's clear to educational researchers that missing school is missing out.

"The Tooele Education Foundation is pleased to collaborate with Miller Motorsports Park and the school district in this innovative education partnership. It's an opportunity to unite and carry out an incentive-based program that will benefit students and teachers throughout the school district."
