LOS ANGELES — Hollywood icon and three-time Academy Award winner Jack Nicholson has reportedly retired from acting.
Radaronline.com reported that a Hollywood film insider has confirmed that the actor is calling it quits.
"Jack has — without fanfare — retired."
While the news may come as a surprise the truth is Nicholson has not starred in a film since 2010, "How Do You Know." Since 2007 the 76-year-old actor has only appeared in two films.
"There is a simple reason behind his decision — it's memory loss," the insider told Radaronline. "Quite frankly, at 76, Jack has memory issues and can no longer remember the lines being asked of him. His memory isn't what it used to be."
The source on the announcement has not been revealed and there has been no word from Nicholson's camp, but according to the insider the actor still plans on staying in the public eye and sitting courtside at Lakers' games.
If the news of Nicholson's retirement is true he wouldn't be the first to go down this road. Both Sean Connery and Cary Grant "retired" from acting and Johnny Depp recently announced retirement might not be far off for him.
