West Valley City, Utah - Fans witnessed some of the most competitive Maverik Modified racing at Rocky Mountain Raceways, an American Speed Association member-track, on Saturday, August 17 as #4 Lynn Hardy won his fourth Maverik Modified feature of the season.
Hardy took an early lead during the 50-lap main after a persistent push for first. #77 Todd Beach increasingly impressed fans as he maintained a top spot throughout the race. Beach looked to finish the race in second, but #84 Mark Ith Jr. passed him in the final laps of the race. Beach finished in third, #00 Tyler Whetstone in fourth, and #10 Jason Aposhian rounded out the top five.
As the season gradually winds down, the Maverik Modifieds have just two remaining points events. Going into tonight's race, Whetstone had a 37 point advantage over #30 Nick Parker in second, and a 138 point lead over #10 Jason Aposhian running third in points.
Local Maverik Modified Racer Zachary Webster joined the Idaho Six Cylinder Racing League, giving the out-of-town racers a run for their money at the start of the of the 40-lap main. Starting in fifth, Webster shot his way to the lead and maintained the position until encountering lap traffic.
By lap fifteen, #44 Austin Hagor claimed the top spot with fast qualifier #58 Dean Waltman following in second. Webster slid back to the third position. A caution, with nine laps to go, found Waltman besting Hagor on the restart. Waltman crossed the finish line ahead of #17 Kevin Detweiler in second, #20 Jasen Skyberg in third, Webster in fourth and #5 Ben Hinkle in fifth.
ASA Winners included #0 Shelbi Combs (Mini Cups,) #97 Matthew Webster (Figure-8 Cars,) and #13 Six-Feet-Under (Western States Equipment Figure-8 Trains.) ASA Weekly Racing will continue on Saturday, August 31 with KSL Night at the races featuring Winged Sprints, Focus Midgets, Mini Cups, Figure-8 Cars and Western States Equipment Figure-8 Trains. Spectators will receive $5 spectator general admission on Saturday, August 31.
