Following two exhibition games at the World University Games' main basketball venue in Kazan, Russia, Team USA and BYU guard Tyler Haws are ready to open competition.

Saturday's Opening Ceremonies will precede Team USA's first game of the preliminary round on Sunday morning, when the Americans will meet the United Arab Emirates.
Whether head coach Bob McKillop stays with the same starting lineup he used in his two tune-up games, one thing appears certain: Haws needs to be a main rotation player in the U.S. lineup.
Haws was among the best players on the floor during this past week's exhibition games--a 94-60 win over Russian pro team UNICS Kazan, and a 93-67 loss to Russia's World University Games team.

Coming off the bench in both games, Haws was economical in his shot selection and efficient in his productivity, joining starter Luke Hancock as the only players to average double-figure scoring over the two contests.
Haws led the team in field goal percentage, was the only player to attempt multiple three-pointers without a miss, was second in free throw attempts and led the team in free throws made. His six field goal makes were the most among bench players, while Haws and Hancock were the only players with multiple steals.
Here's a look at the Team USA's stat profile over the two exhibition games:

Team USA will play in a six-team pool featuring a Canadian squad that includes Gonzaga's Kevin Pangos, Baylor product Brady Heslip, Arizona State's Jordan Bachynski (who was recruited by BYU), Stanford's Dwight Powell, Iowa State's Melvin Ejim and would-be Kentucky transfer Kyle Wiltjer.
The meeting between the U.S. and Canada next Friday will likely determine the pool winner. The top two teams in the pool will advance to the quarterfinals, with the winner of Pool C facing the second-place team in Pool D, and the second-place team in Pool C meeting the winner of Pool D, which features Lithuania, Brazil and China.
