OGDEN — The Brighton Bengals reached the semifinals Wednesday afternoon by beating the Viewmont Vikings 69-58. Brighton has a good team and senior leadership thanks to Brandon Miller.
Miller has committed to the University of Utah to play basketball, but only after he serves a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Brandon Miller will give the Utes exactly what they need, a local kid that can shoot. Miller is averaging 19.4 PPG and that includes almost three 3-pointers per game. He does all of this while the defense keys in on him. Against the Vikings, Miller went 9-14 from the field and had a game high 26 points.
Miller can do it all. He can shoot it off the curl, take contact at the rim and finish, pull-up off the dribble. Utah is getting a good one.
What will help the U are all of those skills in addition to the fact that he is a local kid that the Utes needed to get. He has a younger brother (Brock) that is also very good.
Brock is a couple inches taller than his brother with many of the same characteristics to his game. Brock has already shown that he will be able to play at the next level.
It is imperative for Utah to create those natural high school and family recruiting ties in order to restore what used to be in the Huntsman Center.
