SALT LAKE CITY — One of the witches at Gardner Village is taking time out of her busy schedule this time of year to make sure she is raising money for a good cause.

We surprised Curella the Witch with a High 5 this morning.

The person who plays Curella is a breast cancer survivor.

"What gets you through it is the caregivers, my family," she said. "My birthday is on Halloween and I love witches, so my daughter said, ‘You've got to be a breast cancer witch.'"

She created her witch character because of her battle with breast cancer and her desire to educate others. Curella's costume is pink and has the breast cancer symbol on it.

According to its website, there are three ways to give at Gardner Village during October:
  • Find Hope, the witch of hoping to find a cure located by the petting zoo. Throw your donation into her witching well.
  • Buy tickets for the Oct. 24 show of Witchapalooza and $5 of each ticket will benefit the Utah Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
  • Attend Witches' Night Out on Oct. 26 and 27 from 6- 10 pm. Give at the registration tent or put donations into our witches' hats that will be passed before and after the witches' parade at 8 pm.

"I wanted to give back. Hopefully we're doing something that will help make women aware," she said.

At Gardner Village, she helps raise awareness and collect donations for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Salt Lake City affiliate. Last year Gardner Village raised $3,200.

"She has done an amazing job here at Gardner Village," said Lucinda the Witch.

As part of the High 5, Curella received a gift basket from our High 5 partners at Les Schwab.

The fundraiser at Gardner Village continues all month.
