TOOELE — Police say a man attempted to kidnap a 10-year-old girl in Tooele late Thursday night. But they say some quick-thinking may have saved her life.
The Lowery family was pretty shaken up by the event, but they are also vigilant about creating awareness. They filed a report with Tooele Police who are asking people in the area to look out for the suspect who tried to kidnap Olivia Lowery near Stansbury Avenue and 700 East.
"She just seemed really, really upset," said Jill Lowery, Olivia's mother. "We were absolutely horrified and immediately called the police."
Jill Lowery says her family got a pretty good scare, late Thursday.
"He had a black baseball cap on and black sunglasses, and a brown sweater," Olivia said in describing the suspect.
Olivia was walking home from her friend's house just down the street from her home. She said a man pulled up next to her in a car, and yelled at her to "Get in the car."

She immediately turned around and darted back to her friend's house.
Tooele Police say reports like this come in a handful of times each year, and they are asking people in the area to look for anyone matching the description or who might be acting suspicious.
"We take all of these calls seriously," said Lt. Paul Wimmer. "In this case, the little girl was well taught. She ran. She recognized the danger, and left."
The Lowerys are also spreading the word so that the man can get taken off the streets. Although the description is vague, the man is a white male with a dark green car with tinted windows. Olivia also noticed a fish-like tattoo on the man's neck.
There was one other report of a suspicious man in this same area in a newer, light-green car, but police believe the two incidents are unrelated.
