SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah football schedule continues to get even better, and tougher.

Series Snapshot (1-1)
2008: Utah's Brian Johnson threw for 305 yards and a touchdown and Louie Sakoda kicked four field goals, providing enough scoring to hold on for a 25-23 win.

2002: Just when it looked like Utah might pull off a come-from-behind victory, Julius Curry stepped up for Michigan, intercepting a late Utah pass that preserved a 10-7 win for the Wolverines.

Wednesday, it was announced that the Utes agreed to a home and home series with the Michigan Wolverines beginning in 2014 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The next season however will bring the Wolverines to Rice-Eccles Stadium on September 3, 2015, a Thursday.

The Utes and Wolverines have played twice, both times in Michigan Stadium. The two teams split the series.

Utah's nonconference football opponents
2012
  • 08/30 - Northern Colorado
  • 09/07 - at Utah State
  • 09/15 - BYU
2013
  • 08/29 - Utah State
2014
  • 09/20 - at Michigan
2015
  • 09/03 - Michigan
  • TBA - Utah State

I think it speaks volumes as to how much Utah's program has grown getting the equal home and home from a team like Michigan. Just a few years ago this would not have been the case. Utah would have always welcomed the chance to play a team like the Wolverines, but to get a home and home is a big deal.

This is will added to a home schedule of Pac-12 teams likely including either an Oregon or Stanford, UCLA, and Arizona State.

And you know what? I'm excited.

Utah Head Coach Kyle Whittingham and his staff continue to add arrows in their recruiting quiver. To have the ability to tell perspective recruits that they will be playing in the "Big House" along with all of the other stadiums in the Pac-12 can only help.

This is certainly no cupcake schedule — any questions about Utah trying to avoid an easy non-conference schedule can now be put to bed with the Utes adding the college football team with the most wins ever.

This is also interesting news in the wake of the college football playoff beginning the same year as this series begins.
