SALT LAKE CITY — Peeps: the most divisive candy on the face of the planet? Perhaps.

Some people defend the sugar-coated globs of marshmallow with a fiery passion. Others would rather set the globs on fire.

One thing is certain, though: people have found ways to have fun with Peeps.

The Washington Post's sixth-annual Peeps Diorama Contest put America's creativity to the test: who could present the most inventive display of Peeps? Winners of past years have typically made some reference to current events or pop culture, and 2012 was no different.

After a panel of judges had narrowed the field, the entries were shown to journalists at the paper, who voted for the winner — this year, a colorful portrayal of an Occupy Wall Street offshoot: "OccuPeep D.C."

"Power to the Peeple," reads one sign. The Peeps seem to be staging a peaceful protest, at least.

KSL employees got into the Peep spirit as well, this week, showcasing some peeps recipes that were meant to turn Peeps haters into lovers of marshmallow goo.

Dave Moncion asked passersby outside of the KSL Broadcast House how they felt about the Easter treat, and shared offerings such as Peep sushi — Peepshi — and Peeps s'mores.

Most of the people who liked Peeps said they like how sugary they are — one woman's favorite part was even the dyed, sugary coating.

Not everyone was a Peeps believer, though.

"I've never liked Peeps," one man said. "I've never been interested in Peeps. They just don't taste very good."

Until they are made into sushi, apparently.

"It's actually quite good," the man said after trying one of Moncion's creations.
