SALT LAKE CITY -- A six-car accident has caused the closure of I-215 near 700 North in Salt Lake City.
Around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, northbound traffic began slowing for an unknown reason. That's when one car rear-end another, causing a chain-reaction collision involving four other vehicles. At least one vehicle burst into flames.
The accident brought traffic to a standstill for miles. All northbound lanes and two southbound lanes were closed for hours after the crash, finally opening around 5 p.m.
It's unknown how many people may be injured or the extent of any injuries, but at least one patient is in critical condition and was flown by medical helicopter to the hospital.
Elsewhere on I-215, a semi truck hauling frozen food has toppled over and landed on its side near 2100 South in Salt Lake City, blocking the two left northbound lanes.
