All comments are reviewed by moderators before they are posted. Each user may only post two comments and two replies per news article. @replies in parent comments (1st level) will be rejected. Some users submit comments that make a valid argument or statement but violate one or more of our guidelines, and their comments are rejected. What kind of comments are posted?
We are looking for intelligent on-topic comments that add value and insight to a story. We hold those who submit comments to the similar standards you've come to expect from a news organization — where we accept a wide variety of points of view that add value to a reader's experience. These comment boards are offered as a public forum for a wide audience and should not be confused with a message board or instant messenger service.
What name is displayed with my comment?
Each comment will include your username. If you have not picked a username, it will display your first name and last initial. No other information is displayed to other users outside of that.
Can I edit my comment?
Currently we do not offer the option to edit your comment.
Ok, I met all of the above guidelines and my comment still didn't get approved! What gives?
Our moderators work hard to ensure a civil atmosphere and increase the quality of dialogue. However, because we are human, moderating decisions are subjective and occasionally we make mistakes accepting or rejecting comments. Unfortunately, we are not able to restore rejected comments or respond to requests asking for explanations as to why a comment was rejected.
Haven't you ever heard of freedom of speech? That's censorship!
Commenting on KSL.com is a privilege, not a right. If you continually abuse that privilege, you may have your account suspended or banned. But we want your comments and added insight, so keep it civil and we can continue a long and meaningful online relationship.
What if I spot an error in a story?
Comments regarding story errors — whether grammatical, typographical or factual — should be sent to the reporter who submitted the story (email link to reporter is near their bio at the bottom of the story) or via the "contact us" form. The moderation staff has no control over editorial content.
I had a comment rejected. Can I try again on the same comment board?
Yes. At this time, you are only able to post two comments and two replies. If one or the other is rejected, that comment or reply counts as your post, and you will be unable to re-post on that particular board.
What do the different "Like" colors mean?
We are currently experimenting with different ways to indicate the amount of "Likes" a comment receives. Currently it is based on medal colors. As a comment receives more "Likes", it moves from bronze, silver, gold and finally diamond.
What does the "Pending" number mean?
All comments we receive are viewed by moderators overseen by the editorial staff of KSL.com. "Pending" shows the number of comments pending review by our moderators. Comments will not be posted until they have been reviewed and approved, so they may not appear online right away. There are multiple moderators that work various shifts throughout the day every day between the hours of 7 a.m. - 11 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. weekends MST. Comments posted after the closing times will remain in queue until the next day. We appreciate your patience.
