SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's basketball team has signed transfer Aaron Dotson, the team announced Friday. Dotson is a 6-foot-4, 205-pound wing who comes to the Runnin' Utes from LSU of the Southeastern Conference.

"We are very excited to have Aaron become a part of Utah basketball," said Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak. "He is a quality person and a skilled basketball player who has a wealth of Div. I experience at the highest level, coming out of the SEC. Aaron is an excellent wing player who we believe can do great things in the future for our program."

Dotson averaged 6.8 points per game to go with 2.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists as a sophomore this year. He also made 16 steals and blocked seven shots. In 2009-10, he became the first freshman to start the season-opener for LSU since Anthony Randolph in 2007-08. He scored double figures three times that year, including a career-high 11 points against Washington State.

Dotson has chosen to transfer to Utah after considering offers to play at Oregon, Gonzaga and Washington State.

A highly-touted recruit out of high school, Dotson was listed as high as No. 45 on the ESPNU 100 best prospects in the nation, ranking No. 13 at the shooting guard position. He also represented the United States at the Nike Global Challenge in August of 2008.

Dotson, a native of Seattle, Wash., graduated from Rainier Beach HS in 2009. As a junior, he led RBHS to the 2008 Class 3A state championship with a 24-1 record, averaging 13.5 points per game for head coach Mike Bethea. His senior season was cut short due to a knee injury, which he successfully returned from prior to his freshman season at LSU.

When committing to LSU, he was also being recruited by Washington, Louisville, Miami (FL) and USC.

Dotson's academic focus will be in the field of sports management.
