(KSL News) -- A Republican state Legislator who offered a same-party challenge to Senator Orrin Hatch's re-election bid next year is dropping out of the race.

Saint George Representative Steve Urquhart announced this morning that he will not run against Senator Hatch. Urquhart says his campaign was not meeting important fund-raising and logistical goals in order to mount an effective campaign.

In July Urquhart said he suggested Senator Hatch had lost touch with everyday Utahns, which is why he entered the campaign.

Today Urquhart said he will continue to pursue education and tax policy reform on the state level.
