WEST VALLEY CITY - Bryan Wordelman, a Maverik Modified and ASA National Champion, secured the main event win at Rocky Mountain Raceways on Saturday, September 6. Wordelman found his way to the lead by lap four of the 30-lap main. Eric Rhead quickly raced to the second position and set his sights on the top spot. Through a series of cautions, Wordelman held off the field and claimed his first Rocky Mountain Raceways' trophy of the season.
Rhead finished in second, Jason Aposhian finished in third, Lynn Hardy finished in fourth, and Johnny Luttmer finished in fifth. Wordelman and Rhead also won their respective Heat Races. With just two Maverik Modified races left in the 2014 season, the excitement is evident as many drivers try to make final efforts on their campaigns toward the championship.
Jimmy Wysong backed up his August 30 Winged Sprint win with another first place finish in tonight's 25-lap main. Wysong finished ahead of Ryan Burdett in second and Jimmy Waters in third. Wysong also won the Winged Sprint Heat Race.
Additional RMR Oval Racing Series winners included Ken Chandler (Pro 4,) Kevin Neff (U Burn Em' We Build Em' Transmissions Mini Cups,) and Shake Rattle & Roll (Western States Equipment Figure-8 Trains.)
Oval racing will continue on the America First Credit Union Super Oval on Saturday, September 13 with Maverik Modifieds, Comcast Super Stocks, Figure-8 Cars, Hornets, and Jr. Stingers. Friday, September 19 and Saturday, September 20 will feature the top travelling series, including the Rocky Mountain Challenge Series, ASA Pro Trucks, and ISRL Super Sixes. The Utah State Championships on Saturday, October 4 will mark the finale of the America First Credit Union's 18th season. All local RMR classes will race to determine the season-ending championships.
