SALT LAKE CITY — People have been debating the authenticity of the Apollo 11 moon landing for decades, but new technology may shed more light on the incident.

To investigate claims from conspiracy theorists that the lighting in the moon landing footage is wrong, the team from Nvidia — a computer graphics company — recreated the scene and used its Maxwell graphics processing unit to simulate light bouncing off of objects to see how the scene would be illuminated.

By taking into account all of the reflective factors, like the surface of the moon and Neil Armstrong’s suit, the team said they could prove the lighting shown in pictures taken on the moon can be remodeled.

For a more in-depth explanation of the work, watch the video by Nvidia.
