WEST VALLEY CITY — Police responding to a tip arrested a man they believe pulled a gun on a security guard earlier this week.

Security personnel at Wal-Mart, located at 11328 S. Jordan Gateway, approached 37-year-old Dennis James Monard for possible retail theft July 28, according to the South Jordan Police Department. They said he pulled a handgun on the security guard and then left the store.

Police said they received a tip that Monard, who they describe as a known gang member, had returned to his West Valley City home after the crime.

Officers responded to his house Wednesday night and Monard gave himself up without incident, according to South Jordan police.
