SCIPIO, Millard County — One man died and two others were treated for injuries after the truck they were riding in rolled Tuesday, police said.

John M. Doyle was driving a 1995 extended cab Chevrolet truck and pulling a camper trailer while traveling northbound on I-15, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. Investigators said at about 4:57 p.m., the trailer began to sway back and forth just south of Scipio, causing Doyle to lose control and travel off the roadway into a median.

The trailer then rolled onto its right side and came apart before landing on its top, UHP said. The truck rolled once and landed on its wheels.

Doyle, 72, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was ejected from the truck, according to investigators. They said he was unconscious when first responders arrived on the scene.

He was given CPR by ambulance personnel before being taken to Fillmore Hospital. He died from his injuries, according to UHP.

His wife, Patricia A. Doyle, 70, was also not wearing her seatbelt when the truck rolled, investigators said. She was ejected and landed next to the truck, but was alert and walking around the scene when investigators arrived.

She was later found to have critical injuries and was flown to the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center after being taken to Fillmore Hospital by ambulance.

The Doyle’s 5-year-old grandson, Mason Doyle, was riding in the extended cab portion of the truck. He was not wearing a seatbelt, but was remained in the vehicle during the accident, investigators said.

He was treated for minor cuts on his arm and head, according to UHP. They said he will be released to his family.
