This budget crisis has brought to the surface things that Americans need to look hard at when getting ready to elect the new President and other government officials. We select people who promise to do things and make things better for the country. The politicians can't even get a budgeted signed 6 months late. The "fat cats" in Washington D.C. don't represent the majority of people in this country.

The average income in America is under $60,000. The current salary (2011) for rank-and-file members of the House and Senate is $174,000 per year, not to mention their own personal wealth prior to serving (ha ha) for their states. Speaking of serving for their states, how many of them have asked the people who put them there how they feel about a government shutdown and the hundreds of thousands of people who won't be able to pay the bills, feed the family and take care of day to day business? None!

They aren't fighting over how much money to cut out of the budget; they are maneuvering for "Blame-ability" - it was the other side that turned it down and wouldn't pass it along to be signed. It is nothing but politics once again.

That would do a couple of other things as well. It would get rid of the puppets that big companies have on payroll and working in DC and it would also bring hope back to the average person in the US. The hope that we actually have a say in what government is supposed to do for us. I'm sure that the founding fathers of this once great nation are rolling over in their graves at what has become over their dream land. For now we are the laughing stock of the developed countries with our in-fighting, back biting, and high school approach to solving problems.

What happened to "government of the people, by the people, for the people"? The majority of the people of this nation are not represented in our government system, the rich (people and companies) are.
