SOUTH JORDAN — A loud noise outside got the attention of Jeff Bullock Tuesday night.

“Around 11:45, lying in bed, I heard what sounded like fireworks or pans dropping,” he said.

Bullock brushed it off, but a couple of hours later, an officer was at his door, telling him that his vinyl fence had been vandalized.

The Bullocks went outside and saw two fist-sized holes in their fence that runs along 3200 West.

“This is definitely going to cost a lot of money,” said Bullock’s wife, Kim. “We know all of our neighbors, I can count six neighbors that will have to replace panels as well.”

South Jordan police said they received 11 reports of damaged vinyl fences overnight. The homes are along 3200 West, from 10400 South to 11400 South.

“It’s pretty big, it’s a little bit bigger than my hand,” said Lindsy Chatterton, describing the hole in her fence.

Neighbors said vandals have hit before. The Bullocks said this is the third time this year their fence has been damaged. After the second time in July, they installed security cameras around their home and this time, have video of the vandals.

The video, which the Bullocks played for police, shows a pickup truck heading north on 3210 West.

It’s too dark to make out the license plate, but you can see three people in the bed of the truck.

“Came fairly quick, didn’t stop at any stop signs, just throwing rocks out the truck bed,” a frustrated Bullock said, describing the video.

Police said crimes like this can be difficult to prevent but security cameras can help deter it.

Homeowners said they hope police catch the culprits.

They said the joyride caught on video will cost them money and time.

“Our holiday money is going to repair damage instead of buying gifts for the kids,” Chatterton said. “I think the kids just don’t realize the repercussions.”
