LOGAN, Utah (AP) - Preston Medlin scored 14 points, including two 3-pointers to lead Utah State to a 56-48 victory over Idaho State in the season opener for both teams.

Medlin was 5 of 7 from the field, including 2 of 3 from 3-point range. He added five rebounds. Spencer Butterfield was 3 of 3 from 3 point range for the Aggies. Jared Shaw had 8 points and nine rebounds.

Utah State led 30-23 at halftime.

Melvin Morgan scored 19 points, including two 3-pointers, for the Bengals. He was 7 of 17 from the field. Tomas Sanchez had 9 points and four steals. Andre Hatchett had seven rebounds.

Bill Evans was named head coach of the Idaho State team in March.
