PITTSBURGH — Though seven rounds of the NFL Draft came and went two weeks ago, Reggie Dunn wasn't too worried about not getting picked up by a team.

Of course it can't hurt when an NFL head coach is on the phone with you long before the draft was over.

Shortly after the draft ended, the NCAA record holder with five 100-yard kickoff returns for touchdowns signed a deal to workout with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"I was talking to them before the draft was even over," Dunn told Mike Grant in a phone interview. "I got on the phone with Mike Tomlin, and he told me that (Pittsburgh) is the best place for you."

Utah's extraordinaire kick returner has already started to turn heads at Pittsburgh's rookie mini camp, showcasing his blazing 4.25 40-yard dash speed.

Pittsburgh reporter Jim Wexell even went as far to say that Dunn is "the undrafted rookie with the best chance of making the team."

"(Tomlin) told me that if I do what I have to do, he's known for putting rookies on the field that can make an impact for the team," Dunn said.

Mostly used as a kick returner at Utah, Dunn said that he is willing to do whatever it takes to make the Steelers roster.

"My dad has been a Steelers fan his whole life. I grew up a die hard Steelers fan. It just felt right. I got the chills," Dunn added.

And while he wasn't too worried about not getting picked up in the draft, Dunn said that being an undrafted free agent gives him some extra motivation.

"I have a chip on my shoulder. I want to go and show everyone what they missed out on," Dunn said.
