SALT LAKE CITY -- In life, second chances are hard to come by. Whether with your job or your girlfriend, if you mess up you are likely shown the door. Fair or not, that is just the way life is. However, for Terrance Cain, he will get that rare opportunity by leading the 19th ranked Utes against the No. 10 Boise State Broncos in the MAACO Las Vegas Bowl.

While the Utes look to extend the nation's longest bowl winning streak to ten games, Cain will get the start in place of Jordan Wynn, who is out for six months recovering from shoulder surgery.

Cain, a senior from Houston, Texas, is 9-1 as Utah's starting quarterback. He set the school record for single-game completion percentage (86.95) by completing 20-of-23 passes against New Mexico, including 20 of his last 21 throws. For the season, he has completed nearly 71 percent of his passes.

Yet Terrance has a lingering bad taste in his mouth with his last performance. In the rivalry game against BYU, he was inserted in the third quarter with the Utes trailing 6-0. His first drive consisted of two incomplete passes and an interception. His second drive lasted longer, but ultimately ended with the same fate as his first - another interception.

But rather than throw him under the bus, his teammates have complete trust in his leadership and ability to lead the Utes against the Broncos.

"I have absolute confidence in Terrance," starting center Zane Taylor said. "He's won a lot of games for this program and I think he's going to fill in just fine, especially with the amount of time we have to prepare for Boise State."

"He's handling it well," Wynn said. "He's in the film room watching film, just staying upbeat about it. I think it's ideal for him. Obviously, I wouldn't want to be hurt, but it's nice for him to be a senior and in his last game as a Ute be able to start in the bowl game and against a good team."

Even though Terrance lost his starting role last year to Wynn, he prepares every week as if he is going to get the start.

"Each player out here has to play like they are the starter," Cain professes. "You never know when a soldier is going to go down, so you always have to prepare like you are going (to get the start)."

One thing is for certain - both Terrance and Jordan have been supportive of each other throughout the season.

"We're always going to stay tight," Cain said. "When I was down and he took the starting role, he supported me and I supported him. Now he's out and I'm taking the starting role and he's supporting me. We're just here for each other."

And as rare as they are, T-Cain will get that elusive second chance to showcase his skills to a national audience.
