TAYLORSVILLE — A driver was critically injured Thursday after being thrown from a vehicle, and then pinned underneath it.

Unified Police Department Lt. Rosie Rivera said the accident happened at 4:20 p.m., near 2300 W. 4700 South.

Rivera said a Ford Excursion was traveling east on 4700 South when a Toyota Camry turned out in front of the SUV while attempting to get on the on-ramp to southbound I-215.

The two cars collided, sending the Excursion into a nearby light pole. "From there, she was ejected out of the Excursion and pinned under the vehicle," Rivera said.

It took emergency crews 15 to 20 minutes to get the 39-year-old woman out from under the vehicle, police said. She was transported to the hospital in critical condition, and her injuries resulted in a broken pelvis and a back injury- neither of which are life threatening.

The driver of the Camry was not injured.

"At this point we don't know who was at fault, but we've called our investigators out," Rivera said. "That's what they'll do, is put together an investigation and figure out who was at fault."

Drivers in the area should be aware that the cleanup of the accident is causing significant traffic delays.
