CHARLES CITY, Iowa (AP) — A convicted sex offender who's running for a Charles City school board seat says the new sex abuse charge against him is politically motivated.

Doug Lindaman was charged last week with performing a sex act in 2011 on a 17-year-old boy without the boy's consent. The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1Kp1sG8 ) that Lindaman says there's no substantial evidence against him. He filed a motion Monday that says Floyd County Attorney Rachel Ginbey "has used her office to influence an election" by having him arrested so soon before the Sept. 8 balloting. Assistant Floyd County Attorney Denise Patters says the county attorney's office wouldn't comment.

Lindaman was convicted in 1988 on two counts of lascivious acts with minors.
