SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — As Utah's two previous top lawmen face charges of bribery and other counts, the candidates running for state attorney general this year promise to repair public trust and reform the scandal-rocked office.
Democrat Charles Stormont and Republican Sean Reyes are running to serve the last two years of John Swallow's term as the state's top law enforcement officer.
Swallow, a Republican, resigned in late 2013 amid a cloud of allegations, though he denies wrongdoing.
His temporary replacement, Reyes, has since replaced half a dozen top managers and pledged to reject campaign donations that could create a conflict of interest with the office.
Stormont has said that's not enough and calls for a new ethics committee in the office.
Both candidates promise new accountability measures and pledge to avoid campaign donations that could be a conflict of interest.
