SALT LAKE CITY — Spending the summer enjoying Utah’s parks is a favorite of many, including former presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
Romney detailed his family’s tradition of visiting the American West in a post he wrote on Medium.com. He recently took a trip to sites like Goblin Valley, Bryce National Park and Lake Powell with his wife Ann and five of their 22 grandchildren.
“With the grandkids a captive audience, we taught them about their own ancestors,” he wrote.
The family tradition began with Romney’s parents, who took their grandchildren on trips to show them the beauty of the country and use it as a teaching opportunity, according to the post.

“We came away more appreciative of the landscape God gave us, of the sacrifices of the pioneers and of the comforts of air conditioning and home-cooked meals!” he wrote.
