NEW YORK — There has been a lot of speculation about where the two top local products would land, and now local college fans can start rooting for Detroit and Carolina.
The first local pick was BYU's Ezekial "Ziggy" Ansah who went with the fifth overall pick to the Detroit Lions. Utah's Star Lotulelei had about an hour wait, but his name was called with the 14th pick as he went to the Carolina Panthers.
They join a large group of linemen on both sides of the ball that were drafted this year. The first pick of the draft was the Kansas City Chiefs who picked Central Michigan's Eric Fisher.
The Jaguars selected Luke Joeckel with the next pick to mark the first time that two offensive tackles were No. 1 and 2 in the draft.
Miami drafted pass rushing Dion Jordan and Lane Johnson went to Philadelphia who is another offensive tackle from Oklahoma.
Barkevious Mingo went after Ansah to the Browns. Jonathan Cooper, a guard, will play in Arizona. The first offensive playmaker was receiver Tavon Austin who will play in St. Louis.
Dee Milliner went to the New York Jets as the second non-lineman taken, then it got back into the trenches. Tennessee took Chance Warmack, which bring the total to five offensive linemen in the first 10 picks.
D.J. Fluker went to San Diego, DJ Hayden to Oakland and Sheldon Richardson was the second pick for the Jets. That leads up to the Panthers pick of Star.
