I remember as a kid that we used to sit and tell stories to each other. I used to go to my grandparents house and all my aunts and uncles would be there and we would all share stories and laugh and talk. We are losing some of those story circles. We don't sit and tell the family stories or life stories. We used to hear about Grandma and Grandpa and their life. Today we need to try and get back to hearing the stories. Get the stories out and try to document them. It is the stories that keep the history. Tell stories to each other and get the family stories written down. Share the family history. Piece together the stories in a way that will keep the memories and lessons alive.

Today is filled with distractions. I sometimes sit in the car with 5 kids and everyone has their headset on, their iPod, iTouch. They are blogging or podcasting or facebooking. They are doing all this stuff that they do on their phones now and the reality is that no one is sharing stories anymore. There are so many things that our grandparents have done and have learned. If we don't share them and document them, we are going to lose them. Don't let the stories die. Don't let your family history go. And don't let the lessons go without teaching them to the next generation. I challenge you to remember that who we've been is who we are going to be. There is nothing better than positive discussions about our strengths and our potential. Think about the healthy traits from the past and decide the healthy traits that you want to create as a family. There are amazingly powerful, incredible lessons that can be learned. Keep learning from the healthy and good and take those lessons and use them in your life.
