This is Lane Beattie of the Salt Lake Chamber with your Utah Business Report.

The year is off to a great start for Utah Symphony with the announcement of two national arts grants of 30-thousand dollars to support the funding of an Andrew Norman percussion concerto commission.

The (koo-suh-VIT-skee) Koussevitzky Music Foundation committed 20-thousand and National Endowment for the Arts pledged 10-thousand. Both grants support the commission and world premiere of composer Andrew Norman's percussion concerto to be debuted by the Utah Symphony with soloist Colin Currie on April 18 and 19, 2014 at Abravanel Hall. This world premiere will be conducted by Music Director Thierry Fischer and featured on the Utah Symphony Masterworks Series.

This commission is the third for the orchestra in the four years of Maestro Fischer's tenure as Music Director. This collaboration between Mr. Norman, Mr. Currie, Maestro Fischer and the Utah Symphony furthers the mission and commitment of Utah Symphony | Utah Opera to be an institution that not only curates and performs music from the past, but also supports the creation of new works and celebrates them on their main stage.
